Based in Nazi Germany during the late 1930’s and early 1940’s, this gorgeous book follows the life of a young orphan named Liesel Meminger growing up during World War Two. Exploring love, life, friendship, loss, censorship, freedom, and death through the eyes of the benevolent Death figure who narrarates the story, the novel runs unexpectedly deep. To say the least, it was a perspective-changing read, and I personally consider it to be one of the greatest novels of the decade.
