The Weird Sisters

The Weird Sisters  by Eleanor Brown

recommended by Emily B.

The weird sisters. The title refers to the three witches in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. While Shakespeare lovers will not be disappointed, the only potions, cauldrons or witches in this book are metaphorical. Instead, it handles many serious and intricate topics: family bonds, birth order, aging and illness, and the need for control, attention and meaning in life. Despite these heavy topics, the author lightens the load with a good dose of wry humor. Rarely succumbing to pat answers, this realistic and intelligently written book had me thinking hard about my own motivations and relationships.
